There’s nothing like enjoying a steaming cup of Joe. Whether you drink your coffee by itself, paired with a light breakfast, or having it with a full meal, the area around McGregor, Texas, has plenty of coffee shops to quench your thirst and perhaps give you a boost of caffeine. The next time you’re in the area, make sure to stop by one of these local establishments.

Common Grounds

Found in nearby Waco on South 8th Street near the Baylor University campus, Common Grounds is a locally owned coffee shop that opened its doors in 1994. You can select from among more than two dozen different coffee drinks, including daily drip coffees and traditional espressos. If you prefer a fancier drink, the shop’s menu has different categories, including a Cowboy section, with drinks named Rodeo Clown, No Bull, and Soy Cowboy. For an additional shot of caffeine, try one of its Sleep Is Overrated drinks including the Pig Swig that comes with frozen cappuccino and double espresso or the All-Nighter with mocha and quad espresso. There are also house specialties served hot, iced, or frozen. These include a Milky Way with mocha and caramel latte or a Snickers with mocha, caramel, and peanut butter latte.

Dichotomy Coffee and Grounds

With its location also in Waco on Austin Avenue, Dichotomy Coffee and Grounds offers a variety of coffee drinks and spirits. The shop uses Apex Coffee Roasters, which is a local craft specialty coffee roastery that began in 2014. Order one of the several types of espressos, such as a macchiato, latte, or Americano. The coffee options include a batch brew, pour over, iced coffee, and nitro cold brew. Its seasonal summer menu features flavorful additions, including the Honey Lavender Latte, Coconut Raspberry Spritzer, and the Lemongrass Ginger Latte.

Pinewood Coffee Bar

Opened in 2014 by two Baylor University graduates, the Pinewood Coffee Bar is another shop found on Austin Avenue in Waco that serves coffee and beer. The shop began with a sample roaster and expanded into its first shop in McGregor. Since then, it relocated to Waco where it continues to prepare and serve a variety of coffees from around the world. Half of its beans come from Central America, while the other half hails from Africa. Try its Rover Blend, which is a 50/50 blend of Colombian and Ethiopian beans.

The Coffee Shop Cafe

Located on West McGregor Drive, The Coffee Shop Cafe caters to customers looking for a quieter, slower way of starting their day. It strives to give these customers a place to enjoy the food and beverages as well as laugh and share stories with others at their table. Over the years, the cafe has received numerous accolades from Texas-based publications, including Texas Monthly Magazine and the Texas Highway Magazine. Stop in for a cup of coffee any day starting as early as 6 a.m. Finding the best cup of coffee can be a challenge, but in the McGregor area, you can’t go wrong with any of these shops.
