5 Amazing Hiking Trails Near McGregor, TX  The area around McGregor, TX is one of the best areas for walking and hiking trails that Texas has to offer. The beautiful landscape which surrounds the city is full of trails, whether you’re looking for a short stroll, a hike, or even a new place to walk your dog, there’s bound to be something for you. Here are five of the best trails nearby.

  1. Hale Bopp and Highlander Loop

A real local favorite, this short and easy loop through Cameron Park in neighboring Waco can quickly be reached from McGregor. The route is only 1.7 miles long, making it a great option if you want to get out and about but just don’t have that much time. There are some excellent viewpoints, with gorgeous views along the route, so make sure to stop every once in a while, to take in the scenery.

  1. Mother Neff State Park Trails

Mother Neff State Park is situated along one of the more scenic stretches of the Leon River, just south of McGregor and a short 15-minute drive by car. The park includes beautiful sections of prairie, forest, and canyons, and has nearly 4 miles of trails suitable for everyone, whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced adventurer. The wildflowers along the trails are particularly special.

  1. Bosque River Trail

The Bosque River Trail runs alongside the Bosque River in Stephenville, a city just to the north of McGregor. While the trail is quite short, at only 1.5 miles long, it still makes for a great place to get outside and stretch your legs. There is a lookout along the trail with spectacular views of the river and is designed to be educational for kids, with imprints of native animal tracks along the route of the trail.

  1. Friars Creek Hike and Bike Trail

Located to the south of McGregor, in Temple, TX, Friars Creek Hike and Bike Trail follows its namesake creek, starting from South Temple Park. The trail is mostly open, passing a few trees and fields before reaching its end near Silverstone Park, where walkers can stop for a rest at the picnic area there. As the trail is well paved along its length, it makes a great opportunity to get out for a short cycle.

  1. Cotton Belt Trail (Waco)

Located between McGregor and Waco, the Cotton Belt Trail runs along an abandoned railway corridor commonly known as the “Cotton Belt”, that once linked Texas with Arkansas and Missouri. The trail starts from Harris Creek, on the McGregor side. There is also a short loop available at the recently-opened trailblazer park which includes a stretch of Hannah hill road. The trail runs through a mostly flat, rural landscape, before passing under the spectacular Old Lorena Road Bridge, which is illuminated at night.

There are many other trails to discover and explore around this beautiful part of central Texas, so why not head outside and explore. Make sure to visit Jim Turner Chevrolet of McGregor today to find out more.
