Mother Neff State Park

Plan a visit to the oldest Texas state park, found just 15 minutes from McGregor in Moody. Mother Neff State Park features 3.5 miles of hiking trails, tent camping sites, a lodge, a camp store, and picnic areas. It’s the home of a prairie restoration project that preserves this valuable habitat for birds, insects, and native grass and wildflowers.

Mother Neff State Park is located at 1921 State Park Rd 14, and it’s open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Admission costs $2 for adults (ages 13 and older). Children enter the park for free.

Carleen Bright Arboretum

This awesome outdoor destination is about 15 minutes from McGregor in Woodway. Carleen Bright Arboretum spans 16 acres with botanical gardens, nature trails for hiking and biking, fountains, and relaxing meditation spaces. You can tour a replica of the town’s first church, look for monarch butterflies, bring a picnic, or simply stroll through the rose gardens.

Carleen Bright Arboretum is open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and allows leashed dogs. It’s located at 9001 Bosque Blvd with parking available at the Pavilion lot at 1 Pavilion Way.

Cameron Park Zoo

You can observe animals in their natural habitat at the Cameron Park Zoo just a 30-minute drive from McGregor in Waco. This 52-acre preserve is the home of dozens of different species, including orangutans, giraffes, rhinos, big cats, black bears, bald eagles, and many more. The zoo also has a nature trail, cafe, playground, and gift shop.

The Cameron Park Zoo costs $10 for kids ages 3 to 12, $14 for adults ages 13 to 59, and $12 for guests ages 60 and older. Younger children get in free, and military members receive an admission discount.
