3 Fun Ways to Enjoy the Sunshine This Summer

The best places to golf in McGregor, TX

Summer is the time to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. Beaches, hiking, biking, kayaking, and more are all great ways to have fun while the weather is nice. Here’s a look at three fun ways you can enjoy your summer months outdoors in the McGregor, Texas, area.

1. McGregor Disc Golf Course

If you like disc golf, the McGregor Disc Golf Course is a great way to spend the day outside. The combination of Frisbee and golf is fun for both beginners and experts. Located within Amsler Park, this 9-hole course plays as 18 holes with two distinct baskets per hole. The course offers plenty of shade from the numerous trees, which is good for the heat but might be challenging for the novice player. One helpful tip would be to bring your own water as there are no water stations on the course.

2. Belton Lake

About thirty minutes south of McGregor, Texas, you’ll find the sprawling fingers of Belton Lake. With miles of lake, there’s plenty of space for boating, water skiing, and tubing on a hot summer day. Belton Lake is also great for fishing. You can angle for largemouth and smallmouth bass, catfish, bullheads, and black and white crappie and gar. There are also buffalo suckers, bowfin, pickerel, and so many more species. Picnic areas located all around the lake are great places to pull up your boat for a break. If you don’t have a boat, set up your spread and supplies and spend the day swimming or fishing from shore.

3. Bear Ridge Golf Club

Golfing is a favorite way for many people to enjoy a day of fun in the sun. Bear Ridge Golf Club is located 12 minutes up the road in Waco, Texas. This 18-hole course was designed by PGA professionals Jim Hardy and Peter Jacobsen and is one of the finest public courses in Texas. In addition to walk-on play, the club offers leagues for avid golfers. The men’s league plays on Saturdays, the women’s league plays Mondays, and the senior league plays on Wednesdays. They also have a robust junior golf program that offers various camps and special sessions throughout the week and year. Green fees are reasonable, ranging from $20 for juniors, $25 for seniors, and $29 for adults. Cart rentals are available, and the club has a driving range on site for warming up or for practicing. They also have a pro shop that sells everything from tees and balls to shoes and clubs. You can also schedule lessons through the Pro Shop with club professional Bobby Wilson. The Bear Ridge Grill is the club restaurant and a great place to grab a bite to eat. They offer a variety of breakfast, lunch, and dinner options. If you’re hungry at the turn, you can call in, and they’ll have your order ready as you walk off the ninth hole. Getting outside for some fun in the sun should be everyone’s goal. The next time you feel like having a little fun of your own, you should check out one of these three activities for a great time. Image courtesy of Pixabay.com
