Have your engine checked at Jim Turner Chevrolet.

An engine diagnostic is a check on your Chevy’s health at your local McGregor Chevy dealership. We connect your car’s computer to a code scanner, and any problem in your car is logged by your computer with an error code. Our code reader allows us to quickly identify these problems; then we can repair them. These are a few of the issues a diagnostic can identify.

Transmission Issues

Your transmission is responsible for converting raw, uncontrolled energy from your engine into refined, controlled power to move the wheels. This process is continuous while your engine is running. A transmission contains hundreds of different components, most of which work under hot, friction-producing conditions. Over time, this can lead to damage if an issue isn’t identified and fixed quickly.

Some transmission issues that can be identified include leaking or damaged transmission seals, an overheating transmission, damaged gears, and low transmission fluid. Low transmission fluid, for example, will cause damage to gears and other components as the fluid provides a friction-resistant coating to all transmission components. A lack of fluid can also cause your transmission to overheat. Once we’ve identified the problem, we’ll fix it.

Brake Issues

Hitting the brakes is very easy, but it sets off a chain of events that involves dozens of components. When the brake pedal is depressed, pressurized brake fluid is forced into the brake hoses. This fluid exerts pressure on the calipers, which are positioned above the wheel rotors. In response, the calipers close on the rotors and produce friction that stops your wheels.

A brake diagnostic at Jim Turner can reveal problems in the braking system, like a damaged brake pedal booster, a brake fluid leak, or a blockage in one or more of the brake hoses. The brake pedal booster magnifies the pressure you exert on the pedal. It uses a vacuum system to increase this pressure 10x and allow the brakes to work effectively. A damaged booster can make braking very difficult until it’s repaired or replaced.

Engine Issues

An illuminated check engine light is an instant warning that something is wrong with your engine. Unlike most other warning lights, the check engine light doesn’t identify the particular problem. This is where a diagnostic can help, as the error codes it reveals will enable our technicians to zone in on the problem and repair it.

Engine issues that can be identified include a fuel-rich engine, damaged spark plugs, low compression in the cylinders, which reduces engine power, or a blocked catalytic converter. Any engine issue will grow worse as time passes, which makes it vital to fix any engine issue ASAP.
