With a population of just 5,321, you might think McGregor, TX is just another sleepy Texas town with nothing to do. Well, you’d be wrong! To prove there’s always something cooking in Texas, we’ve conjured up four great tourist attractions in the greater McGregor area, including two in McGregor itself and two a bit farther up the road in nearby Waco.

Blue Hills Ranch

You probably wouldn’t expect to encounter giraffes on a ranch just a few miles from downtown McGregor. But you will at Blue Hills Ranch, a 150-acre giraffe and animal sanctuary sporting a McGregor zip code at 2032 Blue Cut Road N.

Blue Hills captivates families with its lineup of animal adventures, including an otter swim, baby camel bottle feeding, and a safari adventure that lets you get up close and personal with all the ranch’s denizens, which include (besides giraffes!) kangaroos, miniature donkeys, and zebras. For a truly unforgettable experience, try dining with giraffes, where you’ll share a once-in-a-lifetime dining experience with real live giraffes that congregate around your elevated dining platform!

Cedar Chest Antique Mall

The Cedar Chest Antique Mall is another popular tourist attraction located in McGregor at 31707 West Highway 84. The mall has been sharing a passion for antiques with customers since 1998. Spanning over 18,000 square feet, it offers over 150 booths full of unique and interesting collectibles.

Visitors can spend two to three hours browsing through the vast collection of furniture, china, pottery, clocks, and other antiques, and may even stumble upon a rare find or two. BTW, the mall has been seen at least five times on HGTV’s popular “Fixer Upper” TV series, according to its popular Facebook page.

Magnolia Market at the Silos

If we had you at “Fixer Upper”, you’ll want to amble up the road about 18 miles to nearby Waco, where you’ll find Magnolia Market at the Silos, a popular shopping complex sprawling across more than two city blocks at 601 Webster Ave in downtown Waco.

Magnolia Market is owned by the famous HGTV “Fixer Upper” television series, which stars Chip and Joanna Gaines, and offers a wide range of items in Joanna’s inimitable style. The store’s eclectic mix of home decor, apparel, accessories, and food items, make it a must-visit destination for fans of the popular television show.

Waco Mammoth National Monument

A change of scenery will take you from Magnolia Market to the nearby Waco Mammoth National Monument, a fossil site spread over 100 acres of wooded parkland along the Bosque River. You’ll see fossils of the only nursery herd of Columbian mammoths, 20,000-pound giants that once roamed Ice Age Texas. Don’t miss the Dig Shelter for a close-up look at fossils still embedded in the actual bone bed. The site’s address is 6220 Steinbeck Bend Drive in Waco, TX.

That’s a wrap: four captivating tourist destinations within an easy drive of downtown McGregor. We’d love to hear which of the four is your personal favorite – and show you our equally captivating lineup of new and preowned Chevrolets. Visit Jim Turner Chevrolet today!
