The Chevrolet Trailblazer was an icon of the early 2000s, but the midsize SUV left the United States in 2009. Now more than a decade later, this popular family car is making a comeback. Discover what’s in store for the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

A More Compact Design

The new Trailblazer enters a market where motorists want smaller, fuel-efficient auto options. It’s not a midsize SUV anymore. Instead, the latest Trailblazer is a compact crossover that will sit between Chevy’s subcompact Trax and midsize Blazer. This helps fuel efficiency and makes it ideal for darting in and out of city traffic. Since it’s smaller, you’ll appreciate the 60/40-split second-row seats. When they’re folded down, the new Trailblazer offers 54 cubic feet of cargo space. That’s plenty of room for sporting equipment, luggage, and a massive shopping spree. It’s also a real improvement from the 25.3 to 30.5 cubic feet of cargo space available with the seats in their upright positions. However, this trunk space isn’t tiny, especially for this car class. You should have no problems carrying home the weekly shopping and other essentials.

Two Turbocharged Engine Options

The 2021 Trailblazer will be available with two engines. The turbocharged 1.2-liter motor is available across the range. It makes 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Upgrade to one of the higher trims to opt for the turbocharged 1.3-liter engine. It’s only slightly larger, but it feels much more capable going up hills. It generates 155 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. The smaller engine comes with front-wheel drive and a continuously variable automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is optional with the larger engine. The 1.3-liter engine also comes with a nine-speed automatic transmission system.

Excellent Fuel Efficiency

As you might expect from its size and engine options, the latest Trailblazer is no gas guzzler. EPA estimates range from 28 to 31 miles per gallon, depending on the engine and drivetrain. That’s competitive for the Trailblazer’s class.

Packed With Top Tech

The tech innovations may be the biggest differences between the 2021 Trailblazer and its ancestors. Every trim level has a 7-inch infotainment touch screen. This interface integrates with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Sirius XM satellite radio, as well as Chevrolet’s own MyLink system. Chevrolet has also included a range of advanced safety features to protect drivers, their passengers, and other road users. Lane-keeping assist, lane-departure warning, and auto emergency braking with pedestrian detection are all standard. Adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring are great optional extras.

Priced To Please

The base L model Trailblazer has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $19,995. This makes it more affordable than many of its rivals. The top tier Activ and RS trims are also accessible at $26,395 each. Loyal admirers of the original Trailblazer should welcome the iconic name’s return. However, this SUV won’t just trade on nostalgia. Chevrolet’s latest Trailblazer is a thoroughly modern vehicle that reflects contemporary tastes. The brand’s commitment to innovation should ensure its latest Trailblazer earns a new legion of fans. Test drive this updated classic when the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer hits dealerships later this year.
