5 Tips to Keep Your Chevrolet's Paint Job Looking Brand-NewWhen you drive your new Chevrolet off of the dealership lot, you’ll admire the beautiful paint job and wonder how you can keep that new car look for years. Keeping your paint job looking good not only makes you feel proud of your car but also helps maintain the value of your Chevrolet should you decide to resell it. Help to keep your paint job fresh and looking new by following these five simple steps.

  1. Wash Your Car Often

Dirt, dust, and grime build up on your car over time and eventually bond to the paint. When this happens, the paint gets a rough feel to it and loses its shine. Washing your car is one of the best ways to remove the dirt and keep your paint job looking fresh. How often you wash your car depends on the weather you drive your car in, whether you drive in the city or on dusty dirt roads, and if you keep your car covered. Ideally, try to wash your car every two or three weeks to keep your paint looking new.

  1. Wax Your Car

Ideally, you should wax your car every three months or so. Use a microfiber cloth to apply the wax and use circular motions that overlap the areas you previously applied the wax. Let it dry on and then, with a clean microfiber cloth, remove the excess wax. Frequent waxing will help to keep the paint’s luster and add a protective layer, keeping the paint looking glossy.

  1. Keep Your Car Covered

If you can park your car in a garage, under a carport, or shade cloth, you’ll help to extend the life span of your Chevrolet’s paint job. If you don’t have access to a garage or carport, consider buying a car cover designed specifically for your car to help keep dirt, dust, bird droppings, and pollen off of your car.

  1. Repair Dings, Dents, and Scratches Right Away

Every once in a while, no matter how careful you are with your parking or driving, you may end up with a ding, dent, or scratch. If this unfortunate event occurs, it’s important to have the issue repaired as quickly as possible. Fixing any places where the paint has chipped off will help prevent rust corrosion and the paint from flaking more. You can sand off the scratches yourself and apply touch-up paint, or bring the car to your local dealership to have the damage professionally repaired.

  1. Avoid Temperature Fluctuations

When the temperatures fluctuate between hot and cold, the paint on your vehicle expands and contracts, which can cause cracks in your paint job. If you live in an area where the mornings and nights are cold and the days are hot, try to keep your car in a climate-controlled building or environment.
