When the weekend hits, you’re likely in search of things to do yourself or with your friends and family. There is plenty to do in and around McGregor, and we’ll walk you through some options here.

1. Waco River Safari

Whether you want to experience a Texas sunset from the water, tour the homes in the area, or discover new microbreweries, the Waco River Safari has a tour that’s perfect for your group. On each tour, take the journey along the Brazos River and learn more about the history of Waco while enjoying the natural wildlife from your seat. The cruise boat has a hard canopy to protect you from the sun’s rays and a cooler with refreshments to keep you hydrated and happy. You can even order a burger and fries on the sunset cruise for a well-rounded experience.

2. Cameron Park Zoo

The Cameron Park Zoo in Waco is where all animal lovers and curious kids can see animals in their natural habitat. With 52 acres along the Brazos River, Cameron Park Zoo gets you up close and personal with lions, orangutans, bats, Komodo dragons, and other fascinating creatures. Take a walk all throughout the zoo to pay a visit to the mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians, and fish. View the enrichment and husbandry programs that promote the wellbeing of all animals, and let your excitement run as wild as the zoo’s inhabitants.

3. Tonkawa Falls Park

Nearby Crawford is home to Tonkawa Falls Park, where visitors can enjoy waterfalls, creeks, and an abundance of shaded trees. Tonkawa Falls Park has some history to it, as the Tonkawa Indians inhabited the area many centuries before. If you look closely at Tonk Creek when it begins to dry up in the summer, you may be able to see the petroglyphs along the creek bed that many believe the Tonkawa etched. Take the family to sit around a picnic table, jump into one of the swimming holes, and enjoy the community center in the middle of the park.

4. Dr. Pepper Museum

The Dr. Pepper Museum and Free Enterprise Institute includes live demonstrations and informative talks to learn more about a nationwide favorite soda pop. Enjoy the homemade treats in the Soda Fountain, learn more about the connection between our senses of smell and taste and all about carbon dioxide in the Liquid Lab, and hear from members in the 10-2-4 Collectors’ Club. Consider going on the VIP (Very Important Pepper) tour and walk through the historic bottling factory to learn about the invention and history of Dr. Pepper.
