Electrical problems can seemingly appear out of nowhere. The most common source of these types of problems is worn or damaged components that need replacement. These damaged components can cause additional problems for the electrical system and other parts of your engine. As your Chevy dealer, we want you to know some of the signs that your Chevy has an electrical issue that we need to repair.

Illuminated Battery Light

All of your Chevy’s important systems have sensors connected to them. The sensors monitor the systems they connect to and supply this information to your car’s computer. The computer uses the information it receives to make all the essential decisions that allow your Chevy’s engine to work efficiently and effectively.

The warning lights on your dash connect to your computer. If any of the sensors detect a problem, they inform your computer, and the computer will illuminate the relevant warning light. The battery-shaped warning light illuminates in response to a battery problem and also to any other problem in the electrical system. If this warning light comes on, visit us ASAP, and our technicians will diagnose and repair the problem.

Blown Fuses

Fuses are an important part of all your electrical systems. Each system has a fuse connected to it, and these fuses protect their connected system against electrical shorts or other problems. The fuse will absorb the rogue electrical charge and blow out. This protects the system from damage but also shuts it down completely until the fuse is replaced.

The battery warning light illuminates if you have a blown fuse, and the failed system is an obvious sign that something is wrong. Our technicians can easily trace the electrical flow through your car to pinpoint any damaged fuses so we can replace them. It is also possible for the fuse box to be the source of the problem. If necessary, we will replace your fuse box to fix this problem.

Damaged Wiring

Your Chevy has a vast amount of wiring, and this wiring connects all your car’s systems to the alternator, which generates your car’s electricity. An engine is a very harsh environment for wiring, as the wires are subjected to potential movement, high temperatures, and dirt. The wiring is protected against these threats by thick plastic insulation.

Insulation can get damaged, but it’s more common for the wiring itself to wear out and break due to age. Broken wiring will cause problems, as electricity can’t flow through even a small gap. The system connected to the broken wire will shut down until the wire is replaced. Our expert technicians will locate any damaged wires and replace them.

We can repair any problem in your electrical system. Call us today at Jim Turner Chevrolet in McGregor, TX.
