The Top 3 Spots for Ice Cream near McGregor, TXMcGregor, TX is a great place to live, and the people who live here are the salt of the earth. Just because you’re salty doesn’t mean you don’t like a little sweet, so when you’re ready to fire up the Chevy Tahoe and take the family out for some ice cream, try one of these spots.

Heritage Creamery

Over at 13701 Woodway Dr in Woodway, Heritage Creamery started in Waco and is a truly home-grown outfit. Everything they serve is sourced locally whenever possible, and this craft-made gelato will quickly become your favorite frozen treat. They’re open from 2pm until 10pm Monday through Thursday and from noon until 10pm on Friday through Sunday.

There are no limits here. Order as many scoops as you can stack up in a bowl or in their homemade cinnamon vanilla cones. They do great shakes with delicious whole milk, floats, and sandwiches of any flavor between two cookies of any type. They have some great flavors here, and we recommend trying their Duck Fat Carmel, the Balcones Rye Stracciatella, or the Brown Butter Texas Pecan.

Betty’s

If you’re headed south along 317, be sure to stop at Betty’s at 300 Ave D in Moody. Their hours vary so be sure to catch them when they’re open:

  • Mon: 7pm until 8:30pm
  • Tue: 7:30pm until 9pm
  • Wed-Thur: 1:30pm until 8:30pm
  • Fri: 7am until 10pm
  • Sat: 10am until 10pm
  • Sun: 7pm until 9pm

If you can keep track of their schedule, you’ll love it, though. They have the biggest cones you’ve ever tried, and their shakes and smoothies are really excellent. A lot of people in our area will stop by Betty’s on the way to and from Temple.

Andy’s Frozen Custard

If you ask us, custard is the superior frozen treat. It’s higher in fat and lower in sugar than other types, and thus much creamier and better for you (when you remove fat, you have to make up for it in taste by adding sugar: plus, you find yourself eating a lot more of a fat-free option because you’re not getting full). Now that we’ve justified your custard trip, let’s get into the details.

You’ll find this McGregor ice cream spot at 900 S 8th St, and they open at 11am every day. They close at 11pm most nights, but they stay open until 11:30pm on Friday and Saturday. We can’t get enough of the jackhammers, which are concretes with topping-filled centers. Try the Rico Suave, which is vanilla frozen custard with Oreo cookies and roasted pecans, filled down the center with fudge. Share it with a friend!

You’ll love these places, and you’ll also love the service we can offer on your vehicle. Come see us at Jim Turner Chevrolet for your next oil service!
