Properly maintained tires are one of the most important safety factors for any driver. As tires are the only part of your car or truck directly in contact with the road, it’s crucial to keep them in tip-top shape. If you ever notice the following warning signs that you need new tires don’t hesitate to visit your local Chevy dealer for replacements.

Tire Pressure Problems

Always keep an eye on the air pressure inside your tires. Your vehicle may have an automatic Tire Pressure Monitoring System to help with this. It’s also advisable to manually check your tire pressure at least once a month.

You can expect most tires to gradually lose pressure at about one pound per square inch each month. Anything more than this is a red flag. If one of your tires is losing air pressure at a surprising rate, it might have a hidden puncture. A technician may be able to find and repair the puncture or the tire may need to go.

Diminished Tread Depth

Tire tread depth shouldn’t be allowed to fall below 2/32 of an inch on most vehicles. Not only will traction be dangerously reduced at anything under 2/32 of an inch, but this is also the legal minimum limit in most states. For commercial trucks, by federal law, the steering tires or any of the truck’s front wheel tires mustn’t drop under 4/32 of an inch.

Cracks in the Rubber

When long or deep cracks begin to appear on any of your tires, consider immediate replacements. The UV rays in sunlight, water damage, and chemicals used in the products that melt snow can all dry out tire rubber and cause dry rot and cracks to form, threatening the tire’s strength.

Bulges and Blisters

Impacts with potholes or curbs can sometimes cause an internal puncture in a tire, where the inner lining becomes damaged, releasing air that becomes trapped beneath the upper layers of rubber. This often forms a visible bulge or blister. Any tire damaged in this way is dangerous to drive on and should be replaced.

Regular Rotation at Your Local Chevy Dealer Can Extend Tire Lifespan

Getting a routine tire rotation in McGregor is one of the best ways to make your tires last longer. This is because tires naturally wear down unevenly on all cars and trucks due to uneven pressures created by the engine, brakes, and steering. When you have your tires rotated, this wear and tear is spread out more uniformly, saving any one or two tires from excessive strain and damage.
