Lake Waco Wetlands is a great and fun landmark near McGregor for you and the family to visit.

Located in McLennan and Coryell counties and a little under 20 miles west of Waco, the city of McGregor, TX, is within driving distance of several landmarks and tourist attractions worth checking out. If you like museums, cultural centers, and beautiful parks, here are three popular spots you can visit without driving too far from McGregor. Invite your friends and hit the road!

1. Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum

Located in the historic Santa Fe Depot at 315 W Avenue B in the nearby city of Temple, Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum is a popular tourist attraction that can be reached in a little over half an hour by car from McGregor via route TX-317. Open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, this museum is a popular local tourist attraction.
Featuring a large collection of local railroad artifacts and exhibits, Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum is housed in a beautifully restored building from the early 20th century. Some of the objects you can find here include old photographs, timetables, maps, and engineering drawings. Just outside the main building, visitors can board a 1921 Pacific Type Baldwin locomotive and other restored rolling stock.

2. Lake Waco Wetlands

A beautiful wildlife refuge that provides habitat numerous species of plants and animals, Lake Waco Wetlands is an excellent destination for a fun day trip with your loved ones. Boasting three and a half miles of nature trails and picnic spots, this nature reserve is a popular destination for hiking, birdwatching, and wildlife photography.
Located at 1752 Eichelberger Crossing Road and a little over 15 miles northeast of McGregor, Lake Waco Wetlands can be reached in approximately 20 minutes by car via New Windsor Parkway. This beautiful complex is open to the public Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. Guided tours and access to the Research and Education Center can be arranged by phone or via email.

3. Mayborn Museum Complex

Established in 2004 and located at 1300 S. University Parks Drive in Waco, Mayborn Museum Complex is another well-known local attraction that can be reached in just 20 minutes from McGregor via route US-84. Offering plenty of exhibits dedicated to natural history, this place is an excellent place to visit and learn more about the diversity of this region. Opening hours are Monday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and Sundays between 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm.
